We are delighted to announce that for 2024, we are supporting three partner charities, two local and one National. These are:
- The Hunter Centre – Supporting people living with Dementia
- Talk to Me – A local mental health counselling service run out of Haslewey Community Centre.
- Mind – A national mental health charity, working to make sure nobody has to face a mental health problem alone.
The Hunter Centre – The primary purpose of The Hunter Centre is to provide care and stimulation for people living in and around Haslemere, living with various forms of Dementia. For details go to https://www.thehuntercentre.co.uk/
Talk to Me – Talk to Me is a community-based counselling service that offers affordable, professional counselling to the people of Haslemere and the surrounding areas. Offering counselling to adults, children, and young people. Their small team of qualified counsellors offer both face to face and online counselling according to individuals needs and preferences. Payment is by donation only and they never turn anyone away due to lack of funds, believing no one should be denied access to excellent mental health care due to financial circumstances.
Mind – Even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most don’t get the help they need. This has to change and they are there to fight for mental health. For support, for respect, for you. For details see https://www.mind.org.uk/
In 2022, Mandy McKenna made a suggestion to the committee of the Haslemere Fringe Festival with an idea to become a volunteer, and add to their festival an Artist-in-Residence! Mandy is a local floral artist who loves a challenge and painting floral pictures to raise money for a variety of charities. She painted throughout the weekend a large canvas, now called `The Colour of Music` with my floral burst of colour and interpretation of the festival scene. With paintbrush and painting in hand, she also managed to run behind the main stage and asked the headline musicians and new up and coming bands to sign my painting ready to be auctioned, raising funds to the main charity of Haslemere Fringe Festival. The painting `The Colour of Music` has sold, and the full donation of just under £1000.00 is now in the charity funds! Mandy will be back again this year, 2024, paintbrush in hand , dancing happily, while painting live and I will again be auctioning my new and fun artwork to continue my journey mixing art with community Art and music projects, so keep watching for more details.
