Join Mr Kipling, the miniature donkey who stars in his own storybook, with our local author, Caroline Seignot, as she reads The Donkey And His Drummer, and the Hey, Hugo story books. Fun for young and old alike.
Arts and creativity
Artist in residence - Mandy McKenna
Local volunteer artist Mandy McKenna is happily returning as an artist in residence at the Fringe in 2024, painting live at the festival in her expressive, colourful abstract style.
This year she will be hand painting on musical instruments (donated by Chamberlain Music) including 3 brand new guitars which she will get signed by headline bands. These will form part of a silent auction on each of the three days of the Fringe. We will ask you to write your bid along with your name and contact details, which you then put into a sealed envelope. These will be opened at approx. 7:00 pm and the winner announced from the main stage. During the weekend she will also paint six new ukuleles for a draw on Saturday and Sunday evening. Tickets will be on sale at £5.00 from Mandy’s painting station near the main stage.
All money raised will go to the Fringe Festival charity.
Creative workshops with Gallery 13
Following the sucess of his spraypaint workshops at the recent ‘Future Artists Day’, Marty Farrer-Williams from local art studio, Gallery 13 will run a series of creative workshops in the Lions Roar tent throughout the Fringe weekend.

Introducing Archie…
“My name is Archie McIvor, and I am 15 1/2 years old. I go to school at More House in Frensham, where my favourite lessons are media, music and drama. I would love to work in music / media when I leave school.
I love electronic music. I heard a Daft Punk song (Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger) on a video that I saw on youtube, and I loved it! This made me want to hear what other songs Daft Punk had produced, and before I knew it, I was collecting all of their albums on vinyl.
Soon after that, my Dad introduced me to Kraftwerk (Computerworld), and I like the different sound to the older electronic music from the 70s and 80s, and before I knew it, I was collecting all the Kraftwerk albums on vinyl.
Since then, I have discovered Blur and also Gorillaz, both bands have Damon Albarn as the front man. I like the electronic sound of Gorillaz, but also really enjoy the rocky sound of Blur and my parents have told me about the Britpop battles that happened in the mid 90s. I saw Blur at Wembley Stadium with my family in July 2023, which was my first ever gig and I loved it!
At home, I like to recreate music from my favourite bands, and create my own songs. I use a laptop, a keyboard synth, two DJ boards and a full size synthesizer. Synths are my favourite instruments, because there are lots of different sounds to experiment with. I make movies and animations and video edits which I like to share with my friends and family on youtube.
I love drum machines, and I have an electronic drum kit at home and have acheived Grade 2, and working towards Grade 3 as part of my GCSE music. I can recognise the sounds of vintage drum machines from the Roland TR505, to the 808 and others. My favourite drum machine sound is the Linn Drum which were used in the 80s by acts like Michael Jackson, Kraftwerk and Wham.
I first played live at my Dad’s 50th birthday celebrations “Bobfest” where I performed some of my favourite tunes in front of an audience of about 40 people. Dad spoke to his friends about me playing at Witstock in May, and I was given two 15 minute sets to play, this time in front of hundreds of people. I was nervous, but excited and I really enjoyed it. I liked both sets, but the second had some problems with the soundsystem. It wasn’t a disaster, as I was still able to perform my tunes. I had more energy for the first set, and my singing to the songs in the first set seemed to go down well with the crowd.
I am very grateful and excited to come and play at Haslemere Fringe festival, and it’s a huge opportunity to play and to be part of a great event, and I hope you enjoy my performance in July.”
